Obituary

Fern L. Daily (Byrd), passed away on October 4, 2026, at her residence. She was born on August 19, 1939, in Peoria, Illinois, and lived a life marked by devotion to family, faith, friendship, and generous care for others.

Fern built a respected career in the automotive industry, working for Cotter-Stover Ford in McLeansboro, Illinois, and Ford Square in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, where she served in various jobs in the Parts/Service Department. She was known for her strong work ethic and capable leadership, bringing diligence and commitment to her profession.

Her life was also richly shaped by the people and pursuits she loved. Fern was a member of Dahlgren Community Church and found fellowship there as part of her enduring faith. She was also a member of the Antique Tractor Club, and she delighted in simple pleasures and shared traditions. She enjoyed Bunco, loved to travel, and gave above and beyond to all who knew her, leaving behind a memory of kindness that will remain with family and friends alike.

A cherished chapter of her life was her marriage to Rex A. Daily. They were married on January 4, 1974, in East Peoria, Illinois, and shared their lives together until his passing on February 20, 2011. Their marriage stood as a lasting testament to companionship and devotion.

Fern is survived by her grandson; Michael A. Phillips of Anna, Illinois; granddaughters, Nicole Burcham and her husband, Justin of Murray, Kentucky, and Courtney R. Yozze and her husband, Andrew of Watauga, Texas; and by her great-grandchildren, Austin, Laynie, and Kenzie, who brought joy to her family circle. She is also survived by her brothers, Walt Grainger of Kansas City, Missouri, John Byrd and his wife, Becky, of Mahomet, Illinois, and Gerald Byrd and his wife, Connie, of Tremont, Illinois and Kenneth Byrd and his wife, Christine of St. George, Utah; her daughter-in-law, LeAnn Voyles; brother-in-law; Kenneth Daily and his wife Carolyn of Salem, Illinois, brother-in-Law; Jeff Daily and companion, Ellen Leighty of St. Francisville, Illinois and sister in law; Kimberly Hammond of Washington, Illinois and several nieces, nephews, and numerous friends who will remember her with affection and gratitude.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex; her sons, Billy Joe Phillips and Kirk A. Phillips; her father, Kenneth W. Byrd; her mother, Anna Ruth Byrd; sister, Loretta Withers; sister-in-law Carol Grainger; brother-in-law Ron Daily. Their memories remained a lasting part of her life and legacy.

Visitation will be held on October 8, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Harre Funeral Home, 310 West Randolph, McLeansboro, Illinois 62859. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Harre Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fern's memory to Residential Hospice and/or Dahlgren Community Church.

Fern L. Daily will be remembered for her steady spirit, her generous heart, and the warmth she extended to those around her. Her life touched many, and her memory will be treasured always.
