Obituary

Ryan Keith Rubenacker, fondly known as “Rube,” passed away on August 18, 2026, at The Lucy Smith King Care Center in Henderson, Kentucky. Born on February 1, 1980, in Fairfield, Illinois, Ryan’s life was marked by warmth, laughter, and a deep devotion to family, friends, and his community.

Ryan was a proud graduate of Beaver Creek Grade School and McLeansboro High School in McLeansboro, Illinois, before continuing his education at the University of Southern Indiana. The values and friendships he formed during these years remained close to his heart.

Ryan channeled his energy and entrepreneurial spirit into his career as the owner and operator of Rube’s Liquor Locker in Dahlgren, Illinois. His business was more than just a livelihood, it was a landmark where Ryan greeted everyone with a generous smile, a listening ear, and a quick wit that could brighten any day. Those who walked through its doors often left feeling more like friends than customers.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Ryan embraced a full and vibrant personal life. He delighted in mastering trivia, sharing his enthusiasm for Magic Cards, and passionately supporting his favorite teams—the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks. Whether engaging in spirited debates about sports or dazzling others with his knowledge of facts, Ryan brought joy and camaraderie to every setting.

Above all, Ryan cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved son, Dawson Rubenacker; his devoted parents, Keith and Nolene Rubenacker; and his sister, Sara Rubenacker, along with his brother-in-law, Michael Smith. He was a proud uncle to Hamilton and Montgomery Smith, and he is also remembered by several cousins, aunts, uncles, and countless friends whose lives he touched with kindness and humor.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ryan's memory to Elks Scholarship Fund in McLeansboro or a charity of your choice.

To honor Ryan’s memory and celebrate his life, family and friends will gather at Harre Funeral Home on Friday, August 21, 2026, for a visitation from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Crouch Cemetery, County Road 1200 East, Belle Prairie City, IL 62828.

Ryan’s legacy is one of laughter, loyalty, and love for family and community. His generosity and joyful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

In memory of Ryan, please take a moment of time to do a random act of kindness for someone.
